To be successful and profitable a business in our industry must know
and understand as many details as possible about where they fit in the
marketplace.
There continues to be a sea change in how companies like ours are
perceived in the business world. Some of the changes in our 20 year
history have been positive, many have not. The positive changes are, in
simplistic terms, based on the empowerment of individuals within small,
medium and large companies who are now far more self-sufficient and
therefore less likely to rely on people in our profession for a
holistic solution that too often is viewed as a cost as opposed to an
investment.
Where we have seen our greatest successes is from companies that view
us as an extension to the marketing department.
Companies that value marketing and invest properly in the kinds of
services we offer most often are the ones that rise to the top.
Unfortunately, however, too many companies still only pay lip service
to marketing taking its rightful place in the boardrooms instead of
backrooms and cubicles. We find these enterprises are driven by
engineers, accountants, product managers developers, sales managers and
often-times leave less than adequate funding for marketing personnel.
We see our future in leading larger initiatives such as aligning sales
and marketing. We are confident that this is a great opportunity for us
to act in more of a consulting role. When we are successful in this
area we see it leading to the extension of the marketing department
role we play mostly at present. When we are helping companies by
conducting what we call a Systematic Marketing Audit we are then in a
very good position to be contracted to develop new marketing
strategies, help create new tactical campaigns and ultimately produce
and execute these programs in market.
The future as we see it doesn’t stop there as it often has in the past
and unfortunately still does for many who still quote the old adage
“half of my marketing dollars are wasted, I just don’t know which
half.”
With today’s tougher competition and greater accountability, you must
